Track a porcupine to its den. Follow in the footsteps of a red fox as it winds its way through field and forest. Spend an afternoon on Sunday, January 23rd, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., deciphering clues left behind by a variety of Northfield’s predators and prey. Learn to identify tracks and sign with Kim Noyes, FirstLight’s Northfield Mountain Education Coordinator.
Be prepared to head off-trail to track mammals in their natural habitat. Participants should be in moderate shape, wear warm, waterproof footwear, and dress warmly in multiple layers for both moving across the landscape and stopping to study wildlife signs. If we are open for skiing, snowshoes are required and are available to rent for $16. Participants must be 18 years or older and comfortable hiking over moderate terrain. Masks needed for group gathering. Pre-registration is required at www.bookeo.com/northfield as group size is strictly limited for this free program.
